Compare Smooth PU Round Belt and PU Rough Belt

Smooth PU Round Belt and PU Rough Belt have a lot in common, this is owing to the fact that they are made from the same material. However, they have many differences as well. There are certain things you find in one but are not present in the other, I will be listing ten major and important ones out of those differences to help you choose the right belt for your machine.

Ten Major Differences between Round PU Smooth and Rough Belts

1. Glossiness

The Smooth PU Round Belt is glossy due to its surface’s smoothness, hence you can tell its shiny surface apart from the dull and rough surface of its counterpart the rough PU belt.

2. Coefficient of Friction (COF)

The coefficient of friction varies between the two as the rough surface of the polyurethane rough belts increases the COF while the smooth surface of the smooth round PU belt decreases its COF. So if you are looking for something with a lot of friction, you should go for the rough PU belt.

3. Slippery Surface

Once again the two belts differ on the surface this time not the look but the touch. While the smooth round PU belt is slippery, the rough PU belt is not as stated above. So if you are working with things like wool or cotton that fly around and easily get attached to something I will suggest the smooth round PU belt.

4. Range of Application

The rough PU belt has a wider market when it comes to application, while it is suitable for medium-weight power and possibly more, the smooth round PU belt is more suitable for lightweight and only some medium weight like conveyor belts and packaging machines.

5. Elasticity

The smooth round PU belt is very elastic hence it can defy its size at times to fit certain machines that are excessively beyond its size that the rough PU belt may not be able to fit on.

6. Resistance to Deformation

The rough PU belt has a higher resistance to deformation with its high bending resistance compared to the smooth PU belt which is more volatile as a result of its elastic nature. You will be better off with the rough PU belt if you want something that has a high bending resistance.

7. Oil Resistance

The smooth round PU belt is more resistant to oil on the surface because of its slippery nature but that is not the case with the rough PU belt whose rough surface encourages that. So if you are working with a lot of oil that can easily spill, it is advisable that you go for the smooth PU belt.

8. Heat Resistance

The rough PU belt is indeed made for tough business as it also has more resistance to heat when compared to the smooth round PU belt. In case you work with a machine that heats up easily or you work in an environment that is usually hot you should consider the rough PU belt.

9. Less Dirt and Contamination

The smooth round PU belt does not attract dirt like the rough PU belt hence there will be less contamination if you work with a food processing machine, the smooth round PU belt is a better choice.

10. Easier Cleaning

The smooth round PU belt is easier to clean than the rough PU belt. This is because of its slippery surface that resists dirt.

As you can see, none is better than the other but they are designed for different purposes. So you will have to consider your needs and work environment when choosing the one to use. Look carefully at their specifications to determine the one that is best for you.
