What to be Aware of When Using Polyurethane Rods?

When it comes to your manufacturing efforts, considering the different features of each material is highly important – and this is just as true when it comes to polyurethane rods. In line with this thought, today, we’re looking at some of the key things you should be aware of regarding PU rods to help you decide whether or not these might be a suitable option for your own needs.

What are PU Rods?

Before we go any further, it’s worth clarifying what PU rods are. Simply put, PU, or polyurethane, rods are a specialist type of polymer that have become hugely popular for a range of reasons, making them excellent options to consider for many people. As polymers, polyurethane rods boast exceptional resistance to wear and tear, making them incredibly common for use in moving parts and the like.

Key Things to be Aware of Regarding PU Rods

Polyurethane rods are an incredibly valuable material, and their excellent benefits make them a popular solution for a wide range of scenarios. However, it is important to keep in mind here that polyurethane rods may not always be right for everyone, and critically, choosing the right solutions is crucial.

Customisation

When investing in top-quality PU rods, one factor that’s worth keeping in mind is that these can often be customised to your needs. For example, our own PU rods are available in length between 300mm and 1000m and with a shore hardness of between 45A and 98A. It’s also worth noting that the specification ranges between ∅8 and ∅300 mm, further allowing you to choose a suitable solution for your brand’s needs.

Operating Temperature

Compared to some other operating materials, it’s worth noting that premium PU rods may not have quite as high an operating temperature. In some scenarios, polyurethane rods can reach 100 degrees Celsius in a very short period of time, which is versatile for the majority of applications but potentially less suited to very high-temperature systems. However, it is worth noting that premium PU rods from our team can operate down to an impressive -35 degrees Celsius, which is generally more than enough range to tolerate low-temperature manufacturing needs.
